A common myth is that sun tanning and sun exposure is an effective acne treatment. While it is true that a small amount of sun is good for acne and your skin in general, it must be remembered that any benefits are very temporary. Many people report that their skin is clear after exposure to the sun. However, continual sunbathing will lead to dry skin and cause the sebaceous gland to produce an excess of oil. In addition to this, when you have been exposed to the sun more dead cells will need to be removed. The combination of dead cells and extra sebum oil will lead to blocked pores which will almost certainly lead to more acne. The problem is, acne can take time to develop, so people do not often associate sun exposure with acne outbreaks they may experience a few weeks after sun bathing.

Too much sun is never a good thing

There is also a high chance that too much sun tanning or sun exposure will lead to aging of the skin, skin cancer and many other serious health problems. The best idea is to wear sunscreen, but be sure that it will not block you pores. Try and find oil free products with an SPF of at least 15 which will protect you from UVA and UVB rays. Whilst sunburn will not lead to immediate acne problems, it is likely that a few weeks after being sunburnt the affected areas will suffer from an acne outbreak. Is sun tanning a good acne treatment

If you are using acne treatments that contains ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid then extra care is needed. They can both dry the skin slightly and salicylic acid makes your skin more vulnerable to UV light. As a result it is essential to wear sun screen if you are going to be in the sun for any prolonged period of time.
